We live in a culture in
which we are constantly bombarded with images and messages about how we
should look and what we should (or shouldn’t) eat. There is
tremendous pressure for us to fit a certain mold of some idealized body
type. Many people struggle with concerns about their body image and
weight. For some, that takes the form of a diagnosable eating disorder
including Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating Disorder. For others, a
preoccupation with weight and body image is a persistent worry, a
self-evaluation that may prevent us from living a fuller life. In my
work with clients who struggle with issues related to body image, food,
and weight, I strive to create an environment that is not judgmental,
stigmatizing, or shaming. Rather, I work with people to help them take
a look at the benefits and costs of their current approach to weight
and body image. I have extensive experience working with clients with
eating disorders, including collaborative work with nutritionists,
dieticians, physicians, and coaches. Just imagine what you could do
with your life if you didn’t have to spend so much time fighting
the thoughts in your head about your body!
